Tesla electric vehicle owners were concerned about being locked inside their automobiles during a power outage. According to reports, some Tesla drivers have spoken out about their terrifying experiences due to the occurrences, which have raised safety concerns.

Business Insider reported last Wednesday that on several verified occasions, Tesla owners were reportedly unable to leave their cars because of power outages. A Tesla driver claimed in one instance that the vehicle instructed him to stop before losing power. The issue was worsened when the driver's glass mysteriously broke while trying to remove the door physically.

Horrifying Experience

Another occurrence of getting trapped inside a Tesla was reported by Arizona resident Rick Meggison, 73, who became stuck inside his electric vehicle on a hot day that reached 100°F (38°C), according to a report from The Jerusalem Post. For almost 20 minutes, Meggison could not exit his automobile since the battery had died and the doors and windows were not functional.

Some Tesla owners reported typical battery depletion, while others suffered abrupt and unexpected shutdowns. The reason for power loss differs. Though, the difficulty in identifying and using the manual door release mechanism is a recurring theme in many reports of Tesla owners being trapped.

A number of Tesla owners reportedly had trouble finding the manual door release since it is not prominently labeled. Meggison described his encounter and remarked that a Tesla user would not identify the manual door release "unless you know it's there," according to Futurism.

Here's What To Do When You Get Trapped inside a Tesla

Notably, different Tesla models have different manual release difficulty levels. For instance, the owner's handbook for the Model S describes a more complex manual rear-door release system. However, certain Tesla models don't have these safety features, leaving passengers confined to the rear with no way to evacuate manually.

Insider has put up a quick tutorial on where to find and use the manual door releases on several Tesla models, including the Model S, 3, X, and Y, to allay these worries and provide advice to Tesla owners. The owner's handbook for the Model S advises users to manually open the front doors by pulling up the release tab in front of the window switches, per Business Insider India.

The handbook instructs users to peel back the carpet behind the back seats to reveal the emergency door release cable. Users are then advised to pull the cord "toward the center" of the vehicle to release the rear doors.

These incidents of drivers getting trapped in Tesla cars highlight how crucial it is to get acquainted with the emergency protocols in any vehicle, particularly those with complex technological systems. Moreover, ensuring user safety and providing clear instructions in emergencies is crucial as Tesla maintains its market-leading position in electric vehicles.
