Apple is reportedly gearing up for a substantial overhaul of its heralded iPad Pro lineup.

In a "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman tells us that this revamp is poised to bring a wave of changes, ranging from size adjustments to introducing a cutting-edge Magic Keyboard.

The launch, anticipated in early 2024, is being heralded as a potential game-changer for a product line that has seen relatively incremental updates in recent years.

Introducing OLED Display?

AppleInsider notes that this overhaul's buzz centers around introducing an OLED display. This move significantly departs from the mini LED backlighting systems defined by previous models.

Codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721, these models are slated to be the first iPads to feature OLED technology, which is celebrated for its unparalleled color accuracy and vibrancy.

Such a transition coincides with other industry whispers and aligns with Apple's commitment to pushing display technology boundaries.

Additionally, Apple is said to be reimagining the dimensions of the iPad Pro lineup. The familiar 12.9-inch model will reportedly give way to a 13-inch variant, while the 11-inch model continues to hold its place.

This modification aims to enhance user experience and cater to diverse user preferences, offering both power and portability.

Magic Keyboard Upgrade

However, the highlight of this anticipated overhaul comes in the form of an upgraded Magic Keyboard.

Initially introduced in 2020, the Magic Keyboard has won praise for integrating a trackpad and its ability to transform the iPad Pro into a laptop-like device.

The forthcoming iteration is said to take this transformation a step further, aligning the iPad Pro's aesthetic more closely with a traditional notebook. Notably, a larger trackpad is rumored to be part of the package, further bridging the gap between tablet and laptop functionalities.

Apple's Move to Revive the Tablet Market

But why the urgency for such a dramatic shift? Mark Gurman suggests this overhaul could be Apple's golden ticket to reinvigorating the tablet market.

Gurman highlights that Apple's iPad lineup has experienced stagnation due to a perplexing array of models and incremental annual updates.

Furthermore, iPads have been competing against Apple's own Mac lineup, which has become more durable and cost-effective with the transition to in-house chips. This underscores the need for a transformative shift in the iPad Pro series.

Despite the challenges, Apple remains dominant in the tablet market, boasting a 37% share of shipments. However, the declining sales signal a need for reinvention, and the revamped iPad Pro models could be the answer.

Though rumors are swirling, sources suggest that Apple enthusiasts might have to wait a bit longer for these innovations to materialize. Insiders predict that the grand reveal of the overhauled iPad Pro lineup will not coincide with the fall event, where iPhones and Apple Watch are expected to take center stage.

Instead, the new iPad Pro models are projected to emerge in the spring or early summer of 2024, creating anticipation and setting the stage for an exciting tech spectacle.
