In different industries, AI has proven itself to be a massive factor to consider so the technology would be improved, and now GE Health is looking to deliver AI-assisted ultrasounds to ensure future deliveries of babies. This project saw a massive backer to its cause, with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation pledging to the cause.

While ultrasounds are seeing significant advancements in the present, there are still many that it cannot see, with AI hoping to help this soon.

press release from GE (General Electric) Health has detailed its plans to develop a new take on a birthing requirement, centering on AI-assisted ultrasounds soon to help in the doctors' monitoring. Its main goal is to improve the outcomes for births, centering on low and middle-income countries (LMIC) with the help of machine-trained systems.

The AI-assisted ultrasounds would center its development on the user-friendly applications and tools that healthcare professionals will use for their patients.

"Ultrasound is an essential tool for screening and diagnosis of various medical conditions, including the health of expectant mothers and managing respiratory diseases," said Roland Rott, President and CEO, Ultrasound, GE HealthCare.

"However, a key limitation is the guidance of lesser-skilled users to effectively apply affordable point-of-care ultrasound in their care environment," Rott added.

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Backs GE

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation backed this project from GE HealthCare, with the company receiving a massive $44 million grant for the development of the tool.

GE HealthCare stresses the critical healthcare issue in the world that centers on maternal and child mortality amidst and during birth, with the tool looking to soon help assist doctors and professionals, particularly the less-experienced ones, for their check-ups.

Ultrasounds and Tech for Birthing

Ultrasounds have long been the method used by doctors and researchers to look into the womb and other health problems of a person, helping give images and perception from inside the body. Massive developments were applied to ultrasounds, with significant improvements in fetus and infant imaging, with new technology centering on prenatal MRI and 3D images

While the main goal of ultrasounds is to determine the health of a baby from inside their parents, it can also be used to help determine what kind of birthing these expectant mothers should take. According to a study, late ultrasounds to a person can help prevent C-Section births, with the study claiming that it could help thousands of deliveries per year to avoid the knife.

Prenatal care and maternal mortality rates are massive considerations whenever having a child, and while doctors are experts and knowledgeable in the area, the use of AI may still help improve this monitoring. GE Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation are now working together to develop AI-assisted ultrasounds, perceived to be a game changer in the field.
