Microsoft has just released a new firmware update that covers all its different Surface devices. This includes even certain units that are no longer supported like the Surface Book 2, which is also getting the important patch.

According to the story by Tech Spot, Surface devices will be getting the updates automatically through the Windows Update. It was noted that every product would follow its own schedule, which involves a mid-September update that is supposed to cover all Surface units.

It was noted that Microsoft has just come out with the latest update which is expected to be available for a lot of different Surface devices. It was noted that the devices would be getting the updates simultaneously.

The article also noted that the patches would be rolled out in certain stages but so far, they are expected to reach the whole Surface ecosystem. The brand new September 2023 update mainly focuses on addressing different scrutiny vulnerable while also enhancing the system stability and improving performance.

The Microsoft update will also include the latest UEFI firmware as well as device drivers that are expected to support all types of Surface machines. These updates are expected to be distributed through the Windows Update service.

Users can Manually Download the Update through the Microsoft Download Center Resolving Potential Scrutiny Issues

However, users can also manually get the update by downloading the comprehensive package directly from the Microsoft Download Center. The update would resolve potential security issues that are dubbed "serious." 

It was noted that Microsoft released these patches even for the Surface Book 2, which is now deemed unsupported. It was noted that the PC is an Intel-based 2-in-1 computer which reached its support end on June 30, 2023.

The Update is Available for Windows 21H2 Operating Systems and Later Versions

The latest update is reportedly available for devices that run on the Windows 21H2 operating system or later versions. When downloading MSI manually, it would require users 1.5GB in size.

The article noted that driver and UEFI firmware updates would also come for newer devices like the later Surface Pro 7+ and Pro 7 LTE. It also includes the Surface Book 3, which in May 2020, replaced the previously unsupported Surface Book 2.

The September 2023 Update Comes with the UEFI Firmware Version Supporting All Device Types

An article by Neowin reports that the new September 2023 update includes the UEFI firmware version that is capable of supporting all types of Surface devices. It was noted that the update also includes Intel-based Surface Laptop Studio as well as the Laptop 4 systems.

Even the Surface Pro 7+, which is a 2-in-1 detachable tablet computer, needs GPS sensors as well as components for Dolby software. Microsoft also notes that they haven't been able to spot any known issues with the new patch, the September 2023 update.
