A Chinese leaker says that the next Apple Watch Ultra will allegedly feature microLED display technology as its biggest upgrade.

"Instant Digital" a reputable leaker on Weibo, touts that the next major enhancement for Apple Watch Ultra users is its very own custom microLED display technology.

While this development is eagerly anticipated, it's important to note that it may not be unveiled anytime soon.

Next-Gen Apple Watch Ultra to Feature Cutting-Edge MicroLED Displays

As MacRumors spotted, Apple might be preparing to include the microLED display technology on future models of Apple Watch Ultra.

The leaker known as "Instant Digital" has a track record of disclosing accurate information about Apple's plans, including details about the iPhone 14's Yellow spring refresh, Spatial Video on the iPhone 15 Pro, and the minor refresh for the Apple Watch Series 9. Furthermore, they were the sole source claiming that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus would feature frosted back glass.

The news about Apple's plan to introduce microLED displays in the Apple Watch Ultra is widely corroborated. Display analyst Ross Young reported this development as early as January.

TrendForce, a reliable source for tech insights, indicates that the first microLED display by Apple will debut on a new Apple Watch Ultra model in 2026.

Supply chain adjustments may have led to this timeline, although some earlier reports mentioned a 2025 launch. Notably, this new microLED display is expected to be 2.12 inches in size, representing a 10% increase from the current Apple Watch Ultra display.

Custom MicroLED Displays Across Apple Products

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has also shed light on Apple's long-term plans involving custom microLED displays. Following their debut in the Apple Watch Ultra, these cutting-edge displays are anticipated to find their way into iPhones, iPads, and Macs. This move demonstrates Apple's commitment to infusing its key products with superior display technology.

MicroLED technology offers advantages in terms of brightness, color accuracy, and viewing angles. The visual experience is expected to be greatly enhanced, with images appearing more vibrant and lifelike, akin to being "painted" directly onto the display glass.

Apple Watch 2 Ultra's Recent Problems

In another report by BGR, Apple Watch 2 Ultra owners complain that the latest smartwatch is too dim in low light.

According to one user, he is using the smartwatch as a wake alarm. However, he just noticed that 50% of the display is only showing up. The display just dims once again.

It remains a question why the Cupertino firm does not allow users to disable auto dim.

Aside from dimming issues, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is also a piece of concern when it comes to other software problems. BGR also took notice of some complaints indicating that watchOS 10 appears to be incompatible with the smartwatch.
