Canadian singer-songwriter Grimes has filed a lawsuit against billionaire businessman Elon Musk for the custody of their three children.
According to court papers, Grimes, whose actual name is Claire Boucher, submitted a "petition to establish a parental relationship" in a Californian court on September 29. A family attorney noted that Grimes' court filing is standard for unmarried couples with children and often includes claims for child support and custody, per Forbes.
The court case's details remain confidential, but it could lead to child custody and support debates. Elon Musk, 52, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has not commented.
In May 2020, X-A-Xii, their first child was born. Elon Musk and Grimes welcomed a daughter called Exa Dark Siderael through a surrogate in December 2021. Their third kid, a male they called Techno Mechanicus (also known as Tau), was not disclosed until September.
In addition to other tales about them, Elon Musk's biography written by journalist Walter Isaacson detailed how Musk originally won Grimes over with a fast Tesla Autopilot ride.
Grimes Got Blocked by Musk From Seeing Their Kids
Notably, Grimes, 35, has not yet used the legal system to request child support or custody rights. This legal move comes after Grimes recently publicly pleaded with Elon Musk to give her visitation rights to their child.
In a deleted tweet, Grimes asked Shivon Zilis, who gave birth to Musk's twins through IVF, to get in touch with Musk and arrange for her to see their kid.
"Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer. I have never even been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart," Grimes tweeted, as quoted by Daily Mail.

Although Zilis, an executive at Elon Musk's Neuralink startup, gave birth to twins in November of last year, there has been no indication of their romantic relationship in the media.
Father of 11 Kids
From 2018 through 2021, Grimes and Musk dated intermittently. In a July interview, Grimes referred to her connection with Elon Musk as "like, the best internship ever." The well-known technology entrepreneur has remarked in the past that "having children is saving the world."
Elon Musk is the father of 11 kids in all, born to three different women.
Elon Musk and Grimes' first child's unusual initial name, X-A-12, had to be changed to adhere to Californian naming laws. Recently, Grimes defended the decision, saying that their baby likes his name and that others seem to agree with it.
Musk and his first wife Justine Wilson have twins Griffin and Vivian, 18, and triplets Kai, Jaxon, and Damian, 16. Nevada, the couple's other son, died in 2000 at the age of 10 weeks from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, per New York Post. Elon Musk and Shivon Zilis have 17-month-old twins named Azure and Strider.
