The PlayStation 5 is known for its cutting-edge graphics and immersive gameplay - this is why it is easy to get hooked to gaming with a vast library of exciting titles.

However, as the hours fly by in the game, there is a growing concern about the negative impacts of prolonged gaming on health and daily life.

Excessive time on your PS5 can disrupt sleep patterns, strain family and peer relationships, and even affect work or school performance. But fear not because a powerful solution is at your fingertips: Play Time Controls.

Understanding the Consequences of Excessive Gaming

Studies have shown that spending 15-20 hours per week on your PS5 is pushing the boundaries of healthy gaming. If you find yourself gaming for over 21 hours weekly, it is time to sit up and take notice.

It is a problem that deserves attention, and the PlayStation 5 offers a solution that can make a real difference in your life.

The Sun tells us that Play Time Controls is a game-changer for PlayStation 5 users, especially parents concerned about their children's gaming habits.

This feature empowers you to regain control over your gaming time and strike a balance between your virtual adventures and the real world.

Setting up Play Time Controls is straightforward but requires a PlayStation Network account. The account must be either the family manager or an appointed guardian.

Once you have that sorted, you must set your time zone correctly before diving into the controls.

Play Time Controls

Play Time Controls offer a trio of settings that put you in the driver's seat of your gaming schedule:

Restrict Play Time: This setting lets you decide whether to "Restrict" or "Do Not Restrict" your gaming time. If you want to keep a tight leash on your gaming sessions, choose "Restrict."

When Play Time Ends: Here, you can choose between receiving a notification or being automatically logged out when your allotted time is up. No more "just one more game" excuses!

Duration and Playable Hours: Customize your gaming schedule by setting "Play Time Duration" and "Playable Hours" for each day. This level of flexibility ensures that gaming fits seamlessly into your daily routine.

Enabling Play Time Controls

Now that you're eager to harness the power of Play Time Controls let's walk through how to enable them:

  • Visit PlayStation.com/acct/family.
  • Sign in as the family manager.
  • Select the account you want to manage and click "Edit" next to the playtime limit.
  • Save your changes, and you're all set!

Parental Concerns

Recent research from the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital National Poll revealed that 86 percent of parents believe their adolescent children spend excessive time gaming.

However, there is an intriguing twist: many of these parents might be unaware of their kids' actual gaming habits.

The survey found that adolescent boys tend to spend more time gaming than girls, with an average of three hours a day. These extended gaming sessions are causing concerns among parents as they observe the negative impacts on daily life.

Gaming is reportedly interfering with sleep (44 percent of cases), social interactions (44 percent), friendships with non-gaming peers (33 percent), homework (34 percent), and extracurricular activities (31 percent).
