There is still a niche following for Apple's famed iPod Classic this 2023, and no need to worry, as a retailer is offering fans and interested buyers several units of the vintage technology. The good thing about this sale is that the company has a track record for selling old Apple iPods in the past, and earlier the company also sold another "vintage and retro" lineup from the Cupertino giant.

Apple gained fame because of its iPods, being one of the earliest consumer tech gadgets it had, but already saw its discontinuation during modern times.

Philadelphia Inquirer has reported that Urban Outfitters is selling a unique tech for all, and the company calls them "vintage" iPods through its "vintage retro tech" initiative. The retail company is now selling three variants of the Apple tech including the iPod Color (4th Gen), iPod (4th Gen), and the iPod Classic (5th Gen) for $349.99.

It may sound a little overpriced, and this is because it is.

Urban Outfitters has collaborated with Retrospekt to source these iPods and restore them to pristine condition, with the devices branded as refurbished items.

Despite being refurbished, Urban Outfitters and Retrospekt are selling the devices in great state, somehow justifying the $350 price tag.

Users Express Concern Over Overpriced Apple 'Vintage' Tech

Different users on X have expressed their concerns about what Urban Outfitters and Retrospekt are selling, especially for its $350 price tag for one device. Some users are questioning the price tag on these iPod Classics, sharing the screenshots of the listings on their feed.

It was seen before that Urban Outfitters and Retrospekt sold 1st-gen iPod Minis for $199.99 but was originally available for $99 from Apple during its release.

Apple's iPod Classic and Its Legacy

Back in 2022, Apple confirmed that the long-running device it has developed from the ground up, the iPod, is seeing discontinuation and will no longer see the light of day in stores and retailers. It was reported before that after two decades, there has been a decline for the iPod, and the numbers reflect an 89-percent drop on average despite its discontinuation.

It was Apple's first MP3 player, and the only device in its lineup to deliver this experience, alongside different variants including the iPod Mini, iPod Touch, iPod Nano, and the iPod Shuffle. There are still many modders who keep the device alive, paying homage to Apple and their earlier experience, creating a retro Spotify player that makes use of an old iPod.

Last year, we saw the end of an era of one of Apple's most popular and unique technologies, with the company moving on from its development and focusing on its current tech. However, there are still places where one could get iPods and their variants, with the likes of Urban Outfitters, who despite selling it for a high price, offer good condition, refurbished devices to keep the experience alive.
