In a dynamic global smartphone market, Apple has managed to maintain its leadership position, with an astounding 43% share of global smartphone revenues in the third quarter. This record-high market share was achieved despite the iPhone 15's limited availability during the period.

While the global smartphone revenue remained relatively flat year-over-year, the third quarter witnessed a significant quarter-to-quarter growth of 15%, totaling a substantial $100 billion in revenue. However, on an annual basis, the growth plateaued.

According to Apple Insider, Apple has faced increased competition from players like Huawei and Honor. Additionally, Chinese smartphone giants Xiaomi and OPPO, are intensifying their efforts to boost profit margins. This competitive landscape is forcing Apple to stay innovative and customer-focused.

Contrasting with Apple's success, Samsung saw an 8% decrease in shipments and a 4% dip in annual revenue for the quarter. This decline was partially offset by a 4% increase in the average sales price, attributed to the success of its Fold 5 handset and the continued momentum of the S23.

Meanwhile, Chinese powerhouse brand Xiaomi emerged as the only top-five smartphone brand to experience growth in both shipments and annual revenue during Q3. This was mainly due to its promotion-priced mid-range offerings, which found a receptive market in China and India.

China's Impact on the Market

The Chinese smartphone market, however, witnessed a decline of approximately 3% over the quarter. Apple's revenues in China also dipped by 2.5%.

Despite this, analysts view this as a positive signal for the Cupertino firm, especially in light of increased competition from Huawei's 5G handsets and constrained iPhone 15 inventory.

iPhone 15's Full Impact

Counterpoint Research suggests that the iPhone 15's true influence will be better reflected in the current quarter, benefiting from the holiday purchasing season and pent-up demand.

With the iPhone 15 series poised for a stronger performance, Apple remains an influential player in the global smartphone industry, constantly striving to innovate and meet evolving consumer demands.

The high revenue of Apple when it comes to iPhones could indicate that more users are holding onto their smartphones longer before they upgrade to another model. That's actually longer than their Android counterparts, per Tech Times.

Elsewhere, Apple is reportedly facing up to $2 billion in damages in the UK when it comes to battery. The so-called "Batterygate'' scandal was settled in the US. 34 states agreed to probe the glaring issue.

With a pending $2 billion in England, the tech giant is set to pay all the affected customers in this case. The allegations revolve around the throttling tactics of Apple's iPhones.
