Undergoing Knee Surgery

Mark Zuckerberg, the Chief Executive Officier of Meta Platforms Inc., revealed that he recently underwent surgery to address a torn knee ligament that he sustained during a mixed martial arts training session. According to Bloomberg, Zuckerberg made this announcement in a post shared on his Instagram account.

Zuckerberg adopted mixed martial arts (MMA) as a pursuit during the pandemic. Over time, his commitment to the sport has evolved significantly, to the extent that he constructed an octagonal fighting arena in his own backyard.

A month ago, the CEO shared an image of himself featuring two black eyes and a bruised nose, humorously remarking that his sparring sessions had become a bit intense. One of the wealthiest individuals globally, Zuckerberg has recently garnered attention for his prowess in combat sports.

Finding His Love for MMA

Back in May, the CEO of Meta achieved remarkable success at his inaugural Brazilian jiu-jitsu competition held at Woodside High School on the Peninsula, securing both gold and silver medals.

In a 2022 conversation with podcast host Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg shared his journey into the world of mixed martial arts, which commenced during the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized how the sport's primal essence had significantly elevated his energy levels.

In August, Zuckerberg unveiled his backyard fighting cage, a unique addition to his residence where he resides with his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan. This development, previously covered by Fortune, was introduced as part of his commitment to enhancing his physical fitness.

During the pandemic, Wall Street Journal reported that the technology tycoon ventured into Brazilian jiu-jitsu, seeking to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. He further demonstrated his dedication to physical fitness by participating in the Murph Challenge on Memorial Day this year.

The challenge, named in honor of a fallen Navy SEAL from Afghanistan, involved a rigorous workout routine, including donning a 20-pound weighted vest and completing 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and a one-mile run.

As per the CEO, this aids him in confronting the challenges he faces in his professional life. During the summer, Zuckerberg and Tesla CEO Elon Musk appeared to engage in a playful exchange, where they seemingly agreed to a "cage match" following their banter on social media.

A few weeks subsequent to their lighthearted exchange, Zuckerberg made a statement indicating that Musk's intentions regarding the fight were not earnest. As the specifics of the proposed match remained unconfirmed, Zuckerberg expressed his sentiment that it was time to shift his focus elsewhere.

He conveyed this message on his Threads social platform in August, stating, if Elon ever gets serious about setting a concrete date and organizing an official event, he knows how to reach him as he needs to redirect his attention to much more important matters.

Rehabilitation following ACL surgery, as indicated by Stanford Medicine, typically spans several months, with most athletes resuming full activity between nine to twelve months post-surgery.
