If you hate leaving a chat on read or getting these "Read" statuses on the bottom, Instagram is giving you a treat with the new feature where you can disable it on your account's settings. There have been massive requests for Instagram to bring this feature to users, with users wanting to have the choice if they can send out read receipts or receive them in their DMs.

Two of Meta's executives announced this via their Broadcast Channels, claiming that this feature is still under testing by the company and is only available to select users.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg both posted on their Broadcast Channels regarding a new feature that arrived on Instagram earlier today. This is the capability to disable read receipts on the social media platform's direct messages, available via a user's account settings to toggle on or off.

According to Mosseri's shared image, this will be under the Privacy and Safety settings of one's account, under the "Who can see your activity" options.

This feature would allow users to prevent others from learning that they have read their message already.

However, this feature is still under testing for selected accounts only, and both executives are talking about whether when it will be widely available for all.

"Soon, people will be able to choose when to let others see when they've read their messages," said Mosseri.

On the other hand, Zuckerberg made a more threatening but funny announcement regarding this, saying "If you're someone who leaves people on read: your day has come. We're testing the ability to turn off read receipts on Instagram DMs."

Meta and Instagram Developments

The famed media-sharing social media app, Instagram, is ushering in massive developments from time to time, with updates that center on offering the latest features and much-awaited ones from the platform. However, in a previous answer by the IG CEO, the "true" iPad app is not under development at the moment, with users left to use the iPhone app ported version that is stretched on the tablet's screen.

Broadcast Channels are also featured by the company, centering on their way to send out quick updates and announcements to the public, talking about features that are under testing or are coming soon. Mosseri previously announced the arrival of a "Verified-Only" feed via Instagram, shining a spotlight on those part of its Premium subscription program.

Despite being an old app, Instagram continues to bring new features and innovations that will help improve the experience on the platform, sharing it with users and fans directly. Zuckerberg and Mosseri confirmed the arrival of the Instagram feature that allows users to disable read receipts on DMs, a feature that another messaging platform has, currently under testing and hopefully rolling out availability.
