Microsoft made a significant announcement at the Microsoft Ignite 2023, rebranding its AI-powered Bing Chat to Copilot. This move also extends to the premium corporate-focused version, formerly known as Bing Chat Enterprise, which has now been rebranded as Copilot.

According to Caitlin Roulston, Director of Communications at Microsoft, the decision to rename "Bing Chat Enterprise" to "Copilot" aligns with the company's vision to create a unified Copilot experience for both consumer and commercial customers, as reported by TechCrunch.

The announcement was part of Microsoft's broader showcase at Ignite, where the company highlighted advancements designed to help customers, partners, and developers leverage the full potential of Microsoft's technology, reshaping the way work is done.

"At Ignite we are announcing new innovations across our datacenter fleet, including the latest AI optimized silicon from our industry partners and two new Microsoft-designed chips," Microsoft said in an official announcement.

The Copilot for Microsoft 365, introduced eight months ago, has played a crucial role in reducing digital debt and increasing productivity. Microsoft presented its latest Work Trend Index, showcasing Copilot's impact on productivity and work quality. 

Survey results revealed that 70% of Copilot users reported increased productivity, while 68% noted an improvement in the quality of their work. 

Users exhibited a 29% increase in speed when performing specific tasks such as searching, writing, and summarizing. Copilot's efficiency extended to catching up on missed meetings, with users achieving this nearly four times faster. Additionally, 64% of users acknowledged Copilot's assistance in reducing the time spent on processing emails.

Microsoft also emphasized its advances in cloud infrastructure at Ignite, particularly its partnerships with OpenAI and the integration of ChatGPT capabilities into essential tools. 

The company introduced new innovations in its datacenter fleet, unveiling AI-optimized silicon in collaboration with industry partners.

The partnership expansion includes the addition of AMD MI300X accelerated virtual machines to Azure, aimed at ensuring swift AI model training.

Additionally, Microsoft introduced the preview of the NC H100 v5 Virtual Machine Series, optimized for NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs, promising enhanced performance, reliability, and efficiency for mid-range AI training and generative AI inferencing.

Copilot as a Comprehensive Tool

Microsoft envisions Copilot as a comprehensive tool, extending its offerings beyond individual productivity to transform various roles and functions. 

Copilot for Microsoft 365, now generally available for enterprises, has already garnered attention from major organizations like Visa, BP, Honda, and Pfizer, along with prominent partners such as Accenture, EY, KPMG, Kyndryl, and PwC, according to Microsoft. 

Facilitating collaborative efforts, Copilot in Outlook now incorporates additional functionalities to streamline meeting preparations. Concurrently, within Microsoft Teams, improvements have been made to elevate the whiteboarding and note-taking experiences.
