GameStop's Black Friday sale this 2023 is one of the most anticipated, particularly as it offers discounts for favorite gaming experiences, and this now includes the renowned PlayStation 5. As per the company's listing, the PS5 is getting $50 off its original price, and this is among the few sales for the renowned gaming console following its stock issues for years since its release.

Sony's chip shortage affected PS5 stocks in the past years, and now that supply caught up, retailers are now taking this opportunity to sell it at a lower price.

The PlayStation 5's listing on GameStop is now offering a discounted price amidst this Black Friday sale period, and it is offering as much as $50 off the console if you buy it now.

First off, it is important to know that this is the original PS5 and not the upcoming one from Sony that will be released this November. The PS5 "Slim" is set to make its debut, available for $499.99, like the OG's price.

Sony's original PlayStation 5 release first saw its availability in 2020, and saw an unannounced upgrade last 2021, with the smaller heatsink, and this is the current version of the console now. GameStop's Black Friday deal is limited to the platform, and as per CNET, the retailer may be clearing out its stocks of the OG console in preparation for the upcoming Slim.

Is It Worth It To Get the OG PS5?

While there are pros and cons for the original PS5, it is still a worthy console to purchase, especially if upgrading from the older Sony gaming consoles including the PS4 and older. This is already a good deal from GameStop as the PS5 remains at its SRP from other retailers, including Sony's stores.

Turn back the time to less than two years ago and gamers would not expect to see PlayStation 5 deals and discounts on their timelines or websites because of the notorious chip shortage that the entire tech industry saw. Now, back-to-back deals and bundles are made available to all, and this includes cheaper than usual ones, for as low as $700, already with a game.

The regular stock availability of the console, allowed Sony to focus on other ventures that would help improve more of the PS5 experience for users. This centered on the latest PlayStation Portal, the handheld gaming console that mirrors the content on the PlayStation for users to enjoy, alongside its accessories, and more.

However, while Sony dove into the world of handhelds, it is still massive on consoles, with the Japanese gaming company recently introducing the all-new PS5 which the industry calls the "Slim." The iconic and original PS5 may be considered old, but its deals are not that widely available, with GameStop's recent offer being a sweet deal for those looking to get their hands on their console.
