Wide pull-through aisles allow travel trailer owners to charge their EV tow vehicles without the need to unhitch and re-hitch. Dual charging cords provide time-saving simultaneous charging for those using an EV to tow a travel trailer with an electric drivetrain.

Enhancing Charging Experience

As a prominent manufacturer of Recreational Vehicles (RVs), Thor Industries has introduced an innovative approach to enhance the EV charging experience. Their recently unveiled charging stations prioritize user convenience by providing ample space for the easy charging of regular EVs, as well as electric tow trucks and trailers pulled by EVs.

In line with their commitment, Interesting Engineering reported that the company is actively developing specialized charging stations for electric RVs in popular rural locations that are frequently visited by RV owners.

This initiative aims to provide states and rural communities with valuable insights into the essential infrastructure requirements near parks, destination towns, and other areas.  The goal is to contribute to a better understanding of the infrastructure necessary to support the significant economic benefits that future RV travelers will bring.

The idea revolves around creating broad access points to facilitate easy entry and exit, spacious aisles between pull-through charger islands, and ample room for maneuvering large motorized eRVs or EVs towing an RV.

Harmonizing with Nature, Outdoor Living

Thor's charging station is designed to harmonize with nature and outdoor living, offering amenities aligned with a people-centered focus. New Atlas reported that It presents a park-like environment that serves both as a charging hub for electric vehicles and a recreational space.

The setup resembles a city park, featuring a picnic area, playground, fitness space, a designated area for dogs, and abundant greenery. Thor aims to distinguish its stations from conventional gas stations. In addition to the charging facilities, there are restrooms, an RV waste disposal area, a water-filling station, and a tire pump.

The concept also includes regular charging spots for electric cars situated at the station's periphery, optimizing the central space for larger vehicles' easy navigation. Each charging spot is equipped with a roof that harnesses solar energy and provides protection from rain, ensuring users are sheltered from the elements.

Thor emphasizes that small towns with electric vehicle charging stations can draw more visitors, enticing them to invest time and money in the community. The economic benefits extend to businesses in rural areas, whether located in towns or along highways, by investing in such charging infrastructure.

Private campgrounds equipped with electric vehicle charging points are well-positioned to attract individuals towing travel trailers with electric tow vehicles, eliminating the need for adventurers to unhitch and re-hitch their trailers during charging.

Thor envisions EVs playing a pivotal role in the future of RVing as eRVs become available for purchase. President and CEO of Thor Industries Bob Martin emphasizes the significance of a charging station ecosystem capable of accommodating eRVs and EV tow vehicles, asserting its indispensability in facilitating this transformative shift.
