A new mobile experience is now available in Discord, as the company revamped the app meant for iOS and Android, promising improvements in the experience. The instant messaging platform already had a mobile app. Still, the company said that this new refresh offers more of the smartphone experience to users, optimizing the app for the touchscreen.

Its focus gives more importance to creating the Discord mobile experience available for users instead of an app that mirrors the computer and web browser version.

The recent blog post of Discord announced the latest update to its mobile app on both the Android and iOS platforms getting the latest update. Moreover, this focus centers on revamping the experience for smartphones and touchscreens instead of being only a complimentary app for the desktop.

Starting today we're excited to share that "Discord but smol" is evolving so that you can take advantage of what makes your phone so great. Rather than retrofitting designs meant for mice and keyboards, it's a fresh look intended for the touchscreen that fits in your pocket. It's a faster, more reliable app than before, with new features that help you and your friends chat and hang out on the go, like voice messages, and a 25 MB free file upload limit. And most importantly, this time we designed mobile as its own independent experience - as something you can use as your main Discord app when you're on the go, not as something you use alongside the desktop app.

Going to different places on the app will be easier thanks to the new 'Navigation Tabs,' which are seen on the bottom, offering specific places to find the Servers, Messages, Notifications, and You tabs to access. It also gets a 'Midnight Theme,' a.k.a. the Dark Mode, which offers a pure black interface.

The update also comes for the voice and video UI for calls.

The new Discord for Android and iOS seeks to make the smartphone experience more cohesive than the previous version, making it a standalone app for mobile devices.

Discord and the Platform

In recent months, Discord saw a restructuring in the workplace, with the company cutting as much as 4 percent of its workforce to refocus on its missions and visions for the platform.

There were also rumors that previously suggested that Discord was shutting down, and this was because of the different issues present, including controversies it was part of. However, the platform remains strong and it was only a rumor that spread like wildfire, with many fearing that their gaming and lifestyle communications platform will cease to exist amidst this period of uncertainty.

Discord lives on, and it remains one of the most popular gaming communications platforms, with massive importance to its instant messaging and VolP social experiences. While it is highly significant within computers, Discord ensured that all platforms where it is present get an intuitive and fitting experience, revamping the mobile app for both Android and iOS.
