The latest update on Threads is now live from Meta, and it centers on adding searchable Topic Tags on the platform that will link users to related information when using the feature.

While this may look like a hashtag, a renowned symbol in the world of online media, the company does not call it a hashtag and it does not use the renowned symbol when seen on posts.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri unveiled the latest feature live now on Threads, and this is the Topics tag that will allow the content creator to add searchable information on the platform. This works exactly like a hashtag but is also different in many ways.

First off, Mosseri claims that it will bring support for multiple words to put a Topics tag, and instead of the regular white text, users would get it in a light blue color signifying its hyperlink. Users clicking the tag will also see results on the platform only.

Mosseri claims that "The hope is this design focuses tags more on communities and less on engagement hacking, and does so while keeping @threads simple and easy to use."

While this rolled out today for wider access, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, revealed this feature three weeks ago, but it was brought to limited regions that started with Australia.

Hashtags Feature without the 'Hashtags'

Threads' Topics tag is not a hashtag, and Mosseri cannot make that more clear when he said there would be no "#" to display despite using the feature.

This symbol is widely known as the hashtag, but it is also referred to as the number sign. However, its real name is the octothorpe, and for many years now, social media platforms called it a hashtag, even on Facebook and Instagram.

However, it still made its way to Threads, but the octothorpe would be part of the features button which users need to click to make their set of words searchable.

Meta Threads' New Features

Meta's Threads is among the top rivals of the platform from Elon Musk, X (formerly Twitter), with several similarities, but the Meta changed the experience, for example, its free-to-use Edit button.

For several months and weeks now, there have been many additions to what Threads has to offer its users.

The company delivers its new releases via its executives, with the recent revelation coming from Zuck, announcing the ability to post GIFs and conduct polls on the platform.

Threads is still young and has yet to prove itself in the massive tech industry, as well as the rising developments from other platforms and companies. The recent feature that arrived on Threads gives its users the hashtag, calling it the Topic tags, and it will allow them to search the exact or related information and lead them to specific posts, with the company moving away from showing the octothorpe.
