The loss of 970,000 paying customers in the most recent quarter was not as big as expected, and left Netflix with just shy of 221 million subscribers.

Netflix Viewing: Nearly 100 Billion Hours Consumed

Covering more than 18,000 titles, which represent a staggering 99% of all Netflix viewing, the report sheds light on nearly 100 billion hours of content consumed. Some key trends identified in the report align with the familiar names that dominated Netflix's weekly Top 10 lists during the first half of 2023.

Returning favorites such as "Ginny & Georgia," "Alice in Borderland," "The Marked Heart," "Outer Banks," "You," "Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story," "XO Kitty," and film sequels "Murder Mystery 2" and "Extraction 2" continued to showcase their popularity.

New series also made a significant impact, with shows like "The Night Agent," "The Diplomat," "Beef," "The Glory," "Alpha Males," "FUBAR," and "Fake Profile" attracting substantial audiences and cultivating dedicated fan bases.

The broadness of Netflix's film catalog was evident across genres, with titles like "The Mother," "Luther: The Fallen Sun," "You People," "AKA," "¡Que viva México!," and "Hunger" resonating with viewers.

The report highlighted the global appetite for non-English stories, which accounted for 30% of all viewing. It also underscored the enduring popularity of titles on Netflix, noting that viewership extends well beyond their initial premieres.

For instance, "All Quiet on the Western Front," which debuted in October 2022, continued to captivate audiences and amassed 80 million hours viewed between January and June 2023.

"This is a big step forward for Netflix and our industry. We believe the viewing information in this report - combined with our weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists - will give creators and our industry deeper insights into our audiences, and what resonates with them," the streaming giant said in a statement.
