Sam Altman, behind the artificial intelligence boom, will reportedly be absent during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024. This is despite the event being expected to showcase the latest gadgets the most prominent tech firms can offer, centering on the AI craze he started, Reuters reports.

Wired predicts the same for the most significant tech bazaar, stating that technology centering on AI, specifically Generative AI, will be present at the show more than ever, even more so than the CES last year. As compared to 2023, the public reportedly did not have the full CES fire hose of AI announcements, according to Anshel Sag, a principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy.

The analyst maintained that a "tsunami" of GenAI announcements and showcases will be present on the show.

Maribel Lopez, tech analyst at Lopez Research, echoes this notion, stating that this is the year of AI in everything. Lopez adds that businesses will not be worth discussing their products if they do not use AI.

Reuters compares Sam Altman's influence on the tech trade show to Steve Jobs, stating that Apple and its founder's influence was felt despite also not attending, with numerous companies reportedly vying to demonstrate devices that work with Apple's elegant products.

AI in Everything

Wired adds that at CES 2024, artificial intelligence will be present in everything from vehicles to scooters to headphones, cameras, speakers, and TVs. These AI solutions will provide additional methods and mediums to use ChatGPT-like question-and-answer services for spoken instructions.

The AI advancements could also seem more significant, such as firms like AMD, Qualcomm, and Intel expected to release processors that enable AI services and efficiency. Computer vision, voice-to-text services, and generative computing seem more responsive with these chips as Wired states it could execute AI tasks locally rather than requiring a request to be sent to a server in the cloud and then waiting for a response.

Bosch of Germany is anticipated to present an almost undetectable gun-detection device that combines auditory and visual artificial intelligence for proactive school safety. Japan's NEC will introduce artificial intelligence (AI) software that lets mobile devices assess pupil conditions and facial patterns to predict a person's vital signs and mental state.

Manufacturers of PCs and smartphones areare also expected to demonstrate how AI is used in their devices -microsoftrecently reported that the event would include PCs with a new AI button on the Windows keyboard.

AI as Commonplace

Although AI-driven gadgets will be hailed this year, according to Gary Shapiro, CEO of the Consumer Technology Association, the organization that organizes CES, Wired reports, Shapiro expects that the technology will soon become ordinary and fade into the background.

According to the CEO, artificial intelligence is a major component that is here to stay, but much like the internet, companies will not show up at CES and hand out the internet. Shapiro adds that seeing how they use generative AI will be intriguing.

AI-powered computer chips that mimic human interactions could be the highlight of CES, but the report states that there are many more trends to watch.

CES 2024 is expected to arrive on January 9 to 12 in Las Vegas, as per Tech Crunch, but live streams will happen as early as Monday, January 8, beginning at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET, with many of the most well-known news briefings being broadcast live to the public.

On the other hand, the public CES exhibit floor will start on January 9 and run through January 12, 2024.
