Samsung reportedly found a way to cut costs in creating its foldable smartphones and it is through the use of inkjet printing for its bezels, with the new method allegedly applied to upcoming devices. It was earlier reported that Samsung has a goal to bring more affordable smartphones for all starting this year and it may use the said new method to help bring the prices down.

Currently, both of Samsung's releases are known for being in the premium-priced tier of foldable smartphone options available in the world.

A report by a renowned Korean publication, The Elec, claims that Samsung is looking to bring a new way of creating the bezels of the smartphone through inkjet printing, and this may apply to the 2024 releases of the company. Originally, Samsung relied on Segyun Hitech's renowned "micro dry process decoration" method, also widely referred to as the MDD.

Through MDD, the bezels are through a film which would then be cut later to form what would be placed between the glass display and its body. The said bezel films are attached to Samsung's OLED panels and will help add protection to this layer, going between the panel and ultra-thin glass used on foldable display devices, best known for their ability to stay in shape and avoid cracking.

Samsung's New Method: Cut Costs with Inkjet Print

According to 9to5 Google, with this new method, the bezels would be in place before it is blasted with inkjet print, and the original print could be used for other bezels for other units. The new method is focusing on cutting costs for the company's production of the said foldable displays but it remains unknown what would be the difference in its looks or feels once applied.

More Affordable Foldables Coming this 2024

Recurring rumors have been present since last year regarding Samsung's plans to bring more affordable foldable smartphones for the world to see and purchase if they wish to experience this expandable experience. However, these are still all rumors from sources and reports, with Samsung not yet confirming the arrival of new foldable variants and many are only expecting its mainline devices released before.

It is important to note that the flagship foldable device from the company, its Galaxy Z Fold5, costs $1,799.99 for the 256GB option, while the Z Flip6 starts at $999.99, also with the 256GB storage option. However, further reports claim that the new and cheaper variants will start at as much as half the price of the regular releases, expecting it to be offered at $400 to $500.

The old reports corroborate the latest information available for Samsung's goals to bring new foldable to life, centering on more affordable pricing once it hits the market later in 2024. It remains unknown what Samsung will do to make the said foldable cheaper for users, but the latest claim said that one factor is for its bezels, with the company using inkjet printing instead of the MDD for its goals.
