What better way to find places than to use the power of generative AI in apps, which is what exactly Google Maps did brought by the latest update to the platform using the internet company's large language models (LLMs). Through generative AI, Google Maps is looking to bring intuitive details from the information it analyzed from the platform's data and deliver it to users shortly.

Instead of searching for places on Maps, Google used generative AI to improve how it will lead people to the place it recommends, in a more conversational tone with the chatbot.

The latest blog post from Google details how it upgrades the Maps experience to bring its generative AI with it, and this starts with a new way to discover places on the platform. Using Google's LLMs to analyze around 250 million places, community insights of over 300 million contributions, reviews, and more, it leverages a more conversational experience to deliver the next destination.

In Google's example, users may use the "Ask about" feature on its UI to get started in using the AI to search for places that best fit their search.

Currently, it is under Google Maps' experiment to integrate the AI feature, with users given the chance to talk to it like asking a friend about a place that meets their needs. Google also makes the experience collaborative to share with friends

Additionally, Google brings Local Guides to Maps which brings people to interact with members of the platform's community to share their insights and help those in need to get intuitive answers to valid questions. Through this, Google will collate the information they share and use it for others to access whenever needed.

Google's Generative AI and Maps

The massive move from Google towards improving its tech centers on generative AI and this has been apparent in its releases during the start of 2023 when the company first debuted Bard. Many integrations took place in its quest to deliver AI, including the improvements in its Workspace suite and other apps, with a clear goal of expanding more on it this 2024.

Chrome also got the AI upgrades in various updates it had, and the latest version 121 is also adding a way for AI to arrange and organize the tabs in groups for easier sorting.

Android is a recipient of Google's massive generative AI upgrades despite revamping the apps to bring the tech, starting with Google Messages on the platform. More of its mobile AI may be seen shortly following its partnership with Samsung.

As part of Google's massive goals to bring a more helpful and safer AI this 2024, Maps is getting an upgrade that will help expand more of the navigational features it brings, one that would have users conversing with it to discover the right place to be, alongside new feature drops in this release.
