This week's roundup on Tech Times' Weekly Wrap centers on the three stories in the world of technology, with Elon Musk's massive lawsuit against OpenAI creating waves in the industry. It is followed by the multiple returns of Apple's latest mixed-reality wearable, the Vision Pro, with as much as one-third of its initial buyers asking Cupertino for their money back.

Elon Musk vs. OpenAI: Why is He Suing?

Last Thursday, a monumental formal complaint was filed by Elon Musk and his team against a company that he helped found, OpenAI, showing more of his fight against their practices and progression. In this lawsuit, Musk gunned for both the company and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, claiming that they violated the founding agreement which centers on remaining as a non-profit company.

However, Musk argued that this drastically changed throughout the years, highlighting the famed partnership OpenAI has with a Big Tech company, Microsoft. The suit further argued that instead of developing AI "for the benefit of humanity," it is helping Microsoft grow more as a company while it uses its tech and "maximizes profits" of the company.

Musk's lawsuit called upon the court to prevent this new direction from OpenAI, restricting them from operating as a for-profit business.

Apple Vision Pro Sees Returns Now

While the Vision Pro is one of the most popular techs now, a new report claimed that about one-third of owners of the Apple XR headset are already returning the wearable to the company. Around 30 percent of users claimed that this was because of setup issues they faced along the way, with challenges in getting started with their access to both augmented and virtual reality.

Kuo accounted that while there were massive numbers for returns, only one percent of those who bought it have returned the XR headsets to the company. Several complaints center on the eye-tracking technology to browse the headset, claiming that they are compelled to press a button that defeats the purpose.

Moreover, other complaints include the small arrow on the ceiling for Control Center access, alongside a forgotten password issue that requires App Store access.

MIT's New Solar Cell Discovery

MIT researchers shared their latest discovery on solar cell technology which was poised to be a game changer for the future of next-gen sustainable energy solutions. In the release, the researchers claimed that a new crystal structure called "perovskites" could help revolutionize the entirety of solar energy, using nanoscale engineering to improve the durability of this new material.

The promising perovskite-made solar panels bring significant improvements compared to materials used before, however, it has poor durability and less lifespan, resulting in faster degradation. In this study, the researchers are looking into improving the perovskite materials and reaching new efficiency levels that would make it on par with silicon-based solar cells.
