Google has marked International Women's Day 2024 with a specially designed Google Doodle, commemorating the ongoing fight for gender equality and celebrating the achievements of women around the world.

Google said in a blog post that the doodle reflects the progress made toward gender equality while acknowledging the challenges that women had faced over the years.

"This Doodle celebrates International Women's Day and all the progress that has been made towards gender equality. On this day in 1975, the United Nations celebrated International Women's Day (IWD) for the first time," Google noted.

Google Doodle Celebrates International Women's Day

International Women's Day has a rich history dating back to 1975 when the United Nations first celebrated it. The date, March 8, honors the memory of two significant events in women's history: demonstrations in Saint Petersburg and New York City advocating for fair employment, voting rights, and an end to gender-based discrimination.

These rallies laid the groundwork for the ongoing struggle for gender equality. Today, International Women's Day marches address a range of issues, including gender and racial wage disparities, reproductive rights, and combating violence against women.

The day serves as a tribute to women who have shaped society, championed equality, and served as inspirational figures for generations to come.

The Google Doodle, created by artist Sophie Diao, captures the essence of International Women's Day, symbolizing the collective efforts to achieve gender equality. Diao's artwork pays homage to the women who have paved the way for progress and acknowledges those who continue to carry the torch forward.

International Women's Day 2024 Theme

The International Women's Day 2024 campaign theme, "Inspire Inclusion," emphasizes the importance of fostering an inclusive world where women are valued, respected, and empowered.

The theme encourages individuals and organizations to promote diversity and equality in all aspects of society. Gloria Steinem, a prominent feminist, journalist, and activist, once remarked that the struggle for women's equality belongs to everyone committed to human rights.

International Women's Day serves as a reminder of the collective effort required to advance gender equality and create a more inclusive world.

The campaign invites people worldwide to participate in activities and events that promote women's inclusion and empowerment. From economic empowerment to leadership opportunities, there are numerous ways for individuals and organizations to support and advance women's rights.

Whether it's advocating for equal pay, supporting women in leadership roles, or promoting access to education and healthcare, International Women's Day encourages everyone to take action in the fight for gender equality.

"The campaign theme for International Women's Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion. When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge a better world," according to the IWD's website.

"And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. Collectively, let's forge a more inclusive world for women," it added.
