Meta is giving the WhatsApp Status feature a much-needed update. It will soon receive a similar experience on Instagram Stories, where users are allowed to upload one-minute videos.

Under the Status update experience, the vertical expiring media would see twice the longer upload limit than before, but this feature is not yet available.

According to reports, this new WhatsApp feature is under beta testing, but it is expected to be available on the platform soon.

WABetaInfo shared a new discovery on WhatsApp's beta program. The company added a new feature to Status, its Instagram Stories-like experience on the platform. Instead of the short uploads available for Status, WhatsApp is extending it to one-minute video durations that offer more time for users to capture or upload from their gallery to the platform.

The insider claimed this was found on WhatsApp's beta version 2.24.7.6, now centering on status updates worth one minute each video.

It is a significant boost akin to the duration of Instagram Stories but not quite what Meta's social media platform offers.

WhatsApp Status Longer Uploads in Beta

The original WhatsApp Status duration is only available for 30-second uploads, but with this new feature in the beta, it is twice the limit for users.

The report shared that WhatsApp would cut users to videos within the one-minute time frame should the media they upload be longer than that.

However, it was not stated by the insider if it would be similar to the Instagram Stories feature where users may upload longer than one-minute videos, with the Stories cutting it and uploading the video simultaneously, giving it continuity.

WhatsApp Features

Last February, the latest discovery on the WhatsApp Beta program centered on a revamp to the Status, a.k.a. Stories, a feature of the platform offering an improved appearance on the app.

Through the Updates tab, users will be given a dedicated Status showcase, which will enlarge unseen Stories for contacts and center on more discoverability for users.

Additionally, Meta introduced a new privacy and security feature for WhatsApp last December, offering a "View Once" feature that would make the media expire after users accessed it.

In this update, WhatsApp centered on voice recordings from mutuals, where the sender may set the recording to playback only once and then remove it from the conversation afterward.

The widely-used instant messaging app is getting more features from Meta, with the company offering a significant beta testing program that brings new features and possible experiences to the platform.

In this latest beta discovery, WhatsApp is upgrading the Status experience on the platform to be more like Instagram's Stories, now centering on a longer video duration for showing off to friends.
