Apple rolled out iOS 17.4 on March 5, introducing a host of new features aimed at enriching your iPhone experience. Among the highlights are podcast transcripts and enhanced stolen device protection options.

This update follows the release of iOS 17.2 in December, which brought sought-after features like the Journal app and the ability to disable inline predictive text in iMessage.

For others, inline predictive text can spoil their typing adventures because they have to start typing all over again once the text suggestion is inaccurate. However, there's a way to disable this feature if you find this annoying.

Disabling Inline Predictive Text

How to Disable Inline Predictive Text in iOS 17 [2024]

When iOS 17 debuted in September, it introduced inline predictive text, a feature that predicts your text input as you type. While this feature aims to streamline typing, some users found it intrusive, leading to its inclusion as an optional setting in iOS 17.2.

  1. To turn off an inline predictive text:
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Tap General.
  4. Select Keyboards.
  5. Toggle off the switch next to "Show Predictions Inline."

By disabling this feature, you prevent unintended words or phrases from being added automatically while still retaining access to predictive text suggestions above the keyboard.

Turning Off All Predictive Text

If you prefer to disable all predictive text suggestions, including inline predictions, iOS offers a simple solution:

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap on the Keyboard.
  4. Toggle off the switch next to "Predictive Text."

With this setting turned off, you won't see any predictive text suggestions while typing, providing a distraction-free typing experience.

You Can Also Disable Inline Predictive Text on macOS Sonoma

Aside from iPhones, Mac devices can also use inline predictive text features. Somehow, it takes time to get used to this feature, but if you find endless tapping of the space bar unnatural, it's about time to let this go.

To disable inline predictive text on macOS Sonoma, follow the steps below:

  1. Tap the System Settings
  2. Click Keyboard
  3. From here, click Edit under the Text Input heading and Input Sources
  4. A box will appear, and click it to toggle Show inline predictive text off
  5. Once finished, click Done.

Customizing Your iOS Experience

iOS 17.4 continues Apple's commitment to enhancing user customization and control. By providing options to disable predictive text features, users can tailor their typing experience to suit their preferences. Additionally, the update includes various bug fixes and performance improvements, ensuring a smoother operation of your iPhone.
