Tripledot Studios, a UK-based mobile game developer, has struck a deal to acquire the gaming division of US tech firm AppLovin for approximately $800 million in a mix of cash and stock.

The deal adds well-known titles like Wordscapes, Wordle, and Cash Tornado to Tripledot's growing portfolio of 25 live games, including Woodoku, Nut Sort, and Triple Tile. The move positions Tripledot alongside some of the largest independent mobile gaming companies worldwide.

"Seven years ago, we began acquiring gaming studios to help train our earliest machine learning models," AppLovin CEO Adam Foroughi said in a statement, as reported by Reuters. "However, we have never been a game developer at heart."

Founded in 2017 by Lior Shiff and Eyal Chameides, both originally from Israel, along with Turkish entrepreneur Akin Babayigit, Tripledot has grown rapidly. With this acquisition, the company projects annual gross revenues nearing $2 billion before store fees—putting it on par with other Israeli-rooted heavyweights like Moon Active and Playrix.

The deal also includes control of 10 studios operating across 17 cities in North America, Europe, and Asia. This global reach is a key part of Tripledot's expansion strategy, especially in the US and Asian markets. The transaction is expected to close by early summer 2025, pending regulatory sign-off.

AppLovin, meanwhile, will receive a 20% equity stake in Tripledot, as reported at Investopedia.

"Seven years ago, we began acquiring gaming studios to help train our earliest machine learning models," AppLovin CEO Adam Foroughi said in a statement to Reuters. "However, we have never been a game developer at heart."

Tripledot became profitable in its second year and was named Europe's fastest-growing company by the Financial Times in 2023. With offices in London, Warsaw, and Barcelona, the company will employ more than 2,500 people and serve 25 million daily users after the acquisition. Advisors on the deal included Raine Group and BofA Securities for Tripledot, and Aream & Co for AppLovin, per VentureBeat.
