The latest update from TikTok is here to champion mental health for users, especially for teens who are still using the platform past 10 p.m. as it will now take them through a "Guided Meditation" experience.
This expands on the platform's "Wind Down" prompt that is meant to be a reminder for teens about their bedtime, with the platform setting up disruptions to lead teen users to sleep.
While feed disruptions for teens is the previous answer of TikTok to force them to sleep, the company is now looking at alternative ways to encourage teen users to rest.
TikTok For Teens Add 'Guided Meditation' After 10PM
TikTok is now touting that it is a champion of teens' mental health and well-being, particularly with the arrival of new features and tools including the Guided Meditation experience. This feature offers in-app guided meditation exercises that TikTok would launch after 10 p.m., and this aims to help users under the age of 18 to fall asleep.
There are several experiences from TikTok that aims to help teen users to fall asleep as part of this Guided Meditation feature, and it will disrupt their feed with an exercise that primarily focuses on breathing.
The feature would take teen users on a different approach to help them feel sleepy or drowsy, especially as those who use social media platforms like TikTok have a hard time sleeping at the right time because of they cannot put their phones down.

TikTok to Help You Fall Asleep as Part of Wind Down
This new Guided Meditation is part of TikTok's Wind Down prompt for accounts that choose to have it turned on, and is enabled by default for teen accounts. Guided Meditation will take over the entire screen and take users on a series of meditation exercises to help them fall asleep, but if the user chooses to continue using the platform, the next prompts would be harder to dismiss.
According to TikTok, they have partnered with TikTok content creator and child psychiatrist Dr. Willough Jenkins to showcase more of the Meditation experiences found in the Sleep Mode.
TikTok Wants a Better Experience for Kids
TikTok, like any other social media platform, has been dealt with complaints and inquiries about its efforts to help the youths' mental state when using their experiences. While TikTok faced massive issues regarding kids and teens' privacy, it has added safety features along the way, including the limiting of screen time to only 60 minutes for users under 18.
Previous TikTok features include a Family Safety Mode that allow parents to control their teen's usage of the social media platform, also setting up guardrails and schedules for their browsing experiences. TikTok has acknowledged that their For You feed and other experiences can get addictive, with the company offering various parental control tools to help manage the content that their underaged kids can access.
