"God of War" developer Sony Santa Monica is currently working on the next big game of the studio, as confirmed by a trusted insider. There have been various misunderstandings about what Sony Santa Monica and its celebrated developers have been working on in the past years, leading to significant speculations by fans.
However, despite the speculations, there has been no accurate or concrete information until this latest claim from the insider.
'God of War' Developer's Next Game Gets Update
In a new post by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier over at Resetera's forum, the upcoming development from "God of War's" Sony Santa Monica studio is something that gamers are not expecting from the team.
The trusted insider claims that while it would focus on a current intellectual property (IP) of the studio, it "might feel like a new one." He did not share any hints or details behind it.
This game could be about anything under the PlayStation lineup, particularly those that were developed by Sony Santa Monica for its parent company's gaming platform over the years.
In terms of direct developments from Sony Santa Monica, it heavily focused on all the "God of War" games from the original trilogy that were set in Greece, and its revamp that started in 2018 when it moved to the Nordic shores.
According to Schreier's post, this development is "going well" based on the latest information he came across last month, with Sony Santa Monica's celebrated director, Cory Barlog, heading the development. GameRant reported that Barlog is best known for his work on all of the "God of War" games in his career, earning him multiple recognitions.
Insider's Claims on Next Sony Sta. Monica Project
However, there are still no clear indications on what the next game would be from Sony Santa Monica as Schreier did not mention anything regarding this development. The only sure thing it seems is that it is already an existing or current IP under Sony Santa Monica and that it is on the right track of development.
That being said, Schreier did mention that it would not be about the sci-fi game that fans have been talking about. The insider went as far as to say that the belief that this game under Barlog's direction would be the sci-fi one is "nonsense," shutting down speculations about it.
It is already known that Sony Santa Monica is working on some sort of prequel game under the "God of War" series that would feature a 2.5D Metroidvania-type spin-off that would be set in Greece. It is expected that this game will be released as early as next year, but it remains unconfirmed as of writing.
