Artificial intelligence is advancing quickly, and its progress depends not only on proprietary innovation but also on open collaboration. In the past year, Anat Heilper has taken her expertise beyond the corporate world into the open source community, working to expand access and diversify the AI accelerator domain.

Driving Open Source Engagement

Heilper has become actively involved in the Linux Foundation AI & Data organization, where she contributes to the growth of community-driven development. As a member of international conference program committees and a reviewer for AI_dev Europe and AI_dev Japan, she helps shape agendas, highlight emerging voices, and ensure that pivotal sessions get the attention they deserve.

Her commitment extends to publishing: Heilper regularly writes about open source, GPU diversification, and AI accelerators on widely read platforms, including Hackernoon, the Linux Foundation distribution, Medium, and arXiv. Through these contributions, she offers technical expertise and advocates for approaches that expand industry participation.

Advocacy and Leadership

Beyond her technical contributions, Heilper is a founding member of the Women in Tech network, where she continues to advocate for greater representation in technology leadership. This year, she delivered a keynote presentation that underscored the importance of inclusive participation in AI and computing.

Industry Recognition

These community and advocacy efforts build on a distinguished career at Intel, where Heilper held senior leadership roles in AI and advanced technologies. She was chief software architect for AI accelerator products and later served as Director of AI and Advanced Technologies.

During her tenure, Heilper led a team of over 80 engineers to develop Intel's Neural Network Processor for Inference (NNP-I) and was one of the leading software architects of Gaudi2, Intel AI accelerators product for Inference and training. Her work has resulted in multiple patents in compiler optimization for AI accelerators. For these achievements, she received Intel's highest individual contributor honor, the Intel Achievement Award (IAA).

Early Influences and Personal Passions

Born in Haifa, Israel, Heilper grew up in an academically minded family that encouraged both intellectual and creative pursuits. She studied computer science at Technion, graduating Cum Laude, while continuing her passion for music as a pianist. Today, she balances her professional commitments with family life in New Jersey and still turns to piano and cycling as creative outlets.
