The Apple Vision Pro just became a lot more interesting for PC gamers as a Steam Link app from Valve is now available via beta to offer a new way to play on the platform.
With this new app, Valve essentially allows users to stream the games directly to the Vision Pro headset, taking advantage of its crystal-clear display, immersive video capabilities, and spatial computing power.
Vision Pro Gets Steam Link App in Beta
Valve announced that Steam Link is getting a native visionOS app, with the first beta now available. The Apple Vision Pro Steam Link app beta can be accessed through TestFlight.
Steam Link is currently available for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. With the visionOS version, users will be able to access games from their Steam library inside the headset as well.
The beta went live on April 3, posted directly on the Steam community forums by Valve. It marks the first time Vision Pro users will have a dedicated native path to stream their PC or Mac gaming library straight to the headset.
To try it, head to TestFlight and use the link shared in Valve's official Steam community announcement to join the beta program.
Steam Gaming Coming to Apple Headsets
There are a few things worth knowing before jumping in. According to Valve's announcement, this update improves network performance, allows streaming up to 4K resolution, and allows users to dynamically adjust the curve of the display in panoramic mode.
However, there is one important limitation to be aware of. The client is for 2D streaming only and does not support VR content.
Just as visionOS remains a great way to watch 2D video content, there is still a lot to be gained from using a large visionOS window to play games via the Vision Pro Steam Link app.
The Apple Vision Pro Steam Link app remains in beta with no confirmed release date for a public launch.
