Snapchat, the self-deleting messaging app, continues to stand out in the tough competition among other ephemeral messaging apps. With a reported 100 million monthly active users, it continues to be widely popular, with the company valuing at $10 billion.

So cashing in on its users only seems like the next logical step. That is exactly what Snapchat has in mind when it launched a new feature called Discover in January. Discover allows media companies to publish content, with the idea that Snapchat could then in turn sell ads and spilt the the profits with contributors.

Discover is designed for users to check out the latest releases of music videos, movie trailers and original series, while still having that sense of urgency, making it ideal for recording artist to tease new material.

Snapchat could become the trendy platform for artists to release new content. Last Thursday, Madonna took Snapchat's music video release virginity after debuting her music video to the single "Living for Love" in its entirety.

And once Madonna makes something in vogue, then the rest will soon follow. The DJ/producer Diplo decided to use Snapchat's Discover to tease a new track on Tuesday, which features Missy Elliot.

And after the rapper caused quite the buzz for her surprise performance during Katy Perry's Halftime performance at the Super Bowl, we were all wondering when she would drop some new music. It has been 10 years since Missy released a new album, and now she's back via Snapchat.

The new track called "Take Ü There" is a collaboration between Diplo and other famed DJ/producer Skrillex, who together call themselves Jack Ü. The EDM track, which features Kiesza as the vocalist, was recorded last year and has been a massive hit. But Missy spitting her lyrics in this remix brings the song to a new level.

Diplo released the track in a series of three videos.

It's only a matter of time before other artists jump onto this new Snapchat release trend; however, dropped new content via social media is nothing new. Jay Z, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys and Ed Sheeran have debuted new music videos on Facebook. Artists like the late Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez have released theirs on Twitter.

And speaking of Twitter, Missy Elliot fans will be pleased to hear that she tweeted she is back in the studio with her musical partner-in-crime Timbaland.
