World of Tanks is coming to the Xbox One according to an announcement by the developer, Wargaming. The title is free-to-play, and first made an appearance on the PC, then the Xbox 360, and now it is coming to Microsoft's newest video game console.

According to the developers, World of Tanks will be the same game that is currently on the Xbox 360, but with improved graphics as the only differentiator. To make things even more interesting, players from both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One will be able to play together.

This is great news because not many games are cross-platform when it comes down to consoles only. We have to wonder though since cross-game chat is not possible via Xbox 360 and Xbox One, how will players from both platforms communicate?

The developers did not speak of this, but we believe it is an issue they need to address because already some players think cross-game chat between the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One will become a possibility in the future.

"Yes! Of course. Absolutely, you'll be able to play World of Tanks against tankers on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One at release! This means commanders on Xbox 360 and Xbox One will go head-to-head on the same battlefields. But all that high-explosive, metal-smashing, steel-on-steel combat that you know and love will look oh so nice on your Xbox One."

Cross-platform play isn't the only good news here. The developer made sure to note that all the hard earned progress from the Xbox 360 version of the game will rollover to the Xbox One version. This is a huge deal for folks who would love to play the Xbox One version due to its prettier graphics.

What about Windows 10 cross-platform play?

We suspect this might happen since Microsoft made a big deal about Xbox One and Windows 10 cross-platform play. We know it won't work well for every game, but it could for World of Tanks.

The developer did not state when gamers should expect to play World of Tanks on the Xbox One, but they did make sure to announce that the Xbox 360 version was downloaded 5 million times.
