The movie posters for the 87th Annual Academy Awards' ‘Best Picture' nominees have been a bit underwhelming, to say the least. With the exception of The Grand Budapest Hotel, most of the poster's are not something that even the most unsophisticated college student would really want to hang on their dorm room wall.

Thankfully, we have Shutterstock to quell our design woes. In what has become an annual tradition, the stock photo company created Pop Art-inspired posters for the eight ‘Best Picture' nominees. Called Oscar Pop!, Shutterstock created these posters entirely from stock images through Shutterstock assets. And we have to say, the results are a lot more interesting and less on the nose than their original counterparts. Combining the complex and often heartbreaking storylines featured in the eight movies with the levity of the Pop Art movement, creates an interesting juxtaposition.

When creating the movie posters, each designer made the poster in the vein of a particular Pop Art artist. Birdman gets the Roy Lichtenstein treatment with Ben-Day dots and a comic book feel. The Theory of Everything poster takes a page out of James Rosenquist's fragmented billboard style as way to mirror the juxtapositions found in the film. When creating the Boyhood poster, Shutterstock designer Cristin Burton used Pop Art artist Rosalyn Drexler's technique of combining collage and paint. Much like the movie, the poster gives us a series of vignettes in a "slice of life" style. Check out some of the posters below and be sure to head over to Shutterstock's blog to see the rest.
