Since the release of Rock Band 3 back in 2010, Harmonix Music Systems has failed to release another game in the franchise.

However, things are about to change after a new report claims the studio is working on another Rock Band game for next-generation consoles.

Bloomberg Business Report claims the next Rock Band game from Harmonix will be released both for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. There were hints that the developer was looking into the possibility of bringing the popular music game back to life.

In the past, Harmonix released a survey that asked gamers which console they own between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U. The study also touched on what players would like to see in a next-generation sequel. A similar survey was then done in June of last year.

It is safe to say that Harmonix is pleased with the data collected from the survey, and is now hard at work developing the first Rock Band game in five years, six if the title is released in 2016.

Polygon contacted Harmonix regarding the Bloomberg report, and as expected, the response lacked anything interesting. However, the company did state that thousands of gamers are still playing Rock Band up to this day, which is news to us.

"We're excited by how enthusiastic our fans have been in regards to our most recent DLC releases, and we think it's awesome that people are speculating about the future of the franchise," stated a representative of Harmonix.

"While we don't have anything to announce, hundreds of thousands of unique users are still actively playing Rock Band games each month. This passion our fans have shown for Rock Band over the years suggests that rock truly hasn't died, and we've always been clear that we'd love to return to the franchise when the time is right."

Harmonix is quite skilled in creating music-based video games. Apart from Rock Band, the studio also created Guitar Hero, a music game that went on to become one of the most played video games around the world. It also spawned one of the best Freddie Wong videos back in 2006. The question is, will we also see the return of Guitar Hero?
