Singed corpses and guards limping from arrows they had taken in their knees: the effects of war are everywhere in The Elder Scrolls games, and the only element missing are the battles themselves. An Elder Scrolls-themed mod for a Total War game is changing that.

Built on top of turn-based strategy game Medieval 2: Total War: Kingdoms, The Elder Scrolls: Total War is a landmark step in a mod that enables players to command armies of Elder Scrolls races through epic battles. The mods' battles bring the action of those mentioned in the Morrowind and Oblivion games.

The mod's creator, LoRdNazgu1, warns that The Elder Scrolls: Total War is only in its early stages right now. The mod's first major patch should bring with it some of the series' iconic architecture and smooth out gaps in the story, he says.

"The Elder Scrolls: Total War is a total conversion of Medieval 2: Total War: Kingdoms. It gives you a glimpse into the world of The Elder Sсrolls, as the head of one of the 20 factions fighting for dominance over Tamriel," he says.

As mod that hasn't had its life planned out in full, The Elder Scrolls: Total War will evolve with developments in the Elder Scrolls universe. Whenever Bethesda releases new information, LoRdNazgu1 says the mod will reflect that data.

"This could be, for example, the visual appearance of the Khajiit or Argonian troops, or anything else," he says. "We will develop the project as long as possible or interesting to you."

The modder says there may be some DLC packs that add new units to the battles or at least adjust their placement on the battlefield.

To give the mod a go, players will need to purchase Medieval 2: Total War: Kingdoms and download the mod.

"And remember, this is only the first release. We do not want to call it beta, alpha and especially pre-alpha (as the amount of content is great)," the modder says.
