An Australian woman woke up to horrible frostbite after sleeping outdoors in freezing temperatures in Canada.

Emma Quirk, an Australian tourist, fell asleep outdoors after partying and getting drunk on a December night. Quirk, originally from New South Wales, posted some of pictures and details of the ordeal on Imgur under the name "TheBassistsMuse."

"I got way too wastey-pants one night in a new town trying to make some friends and settle in. I was blackout drunk by midnight, with no phone, no money and no idea where I was and I couldn't find my way home," wrote Quirk.

The Australian woman reveals that she went for a night out with her new friends and nearly lost her hand to the severely cold Canadian temperatures.

Quirk suggests that she went out for a cigarette in the cold night without her jacket as she had left it in the bar. She explains that her new friends last saw her at around 2:30 a.m. It seems that the Australian woman passed while having a cigarette and slept outside in -30 degrees Celsius.

At around 5:45 in the morning, Quirk was found sleeping near a nursing home and had to be immediately hospitalized. Health care professionals revealed that Quirk was fortunate to have survived the harsh weather.

Even though Quirk survived the extreme weather, she suffered frostbite on her fingers. The frostbite on the Imgur images are horrible, and Emma was terrified to learn that she was at risk of losing her hand as a result.

Doctors treating Quirk wanted to examine her fingers a few days later, after they had blistered tremendously, so that they could remove pus. In the meantime, Quirk was unable to use her fingers as they were quite sore. After a few days, the doctors cut open her blisters, relieving the pain.

As she was being discharged from the hospital, she was asked to return in June for a follow-up. Her fingers are still not out of danger and are still at risk of getting amputated.

Quirk also has plans of getting a prosthetic finger in case if she loses one.

"The moral of the story is: 1) don't go full retard 2) try not to get blackout drunk. 3) but if you do, know how to get home. 4) find the pun in every situation," writes Quirk.
