When in Rome, pizza should be must-have item on your list of foods to eat. And while the pizza in Italy is probably pure slices of heaven, running in to get a slice is one luxury that the Pope can no longer enjoy.

During an interview earlier this month in honor of the second anniversary of his papacy, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church revealed that the only thing he wishes he could still do is to be able to grab a quick slice of pizza without being noticed.

"The only thing I would like is to go out one day, without being recognized, and go to a pizzeria," he says.

Since no Italian should be damned to live on earth without the joy of a slice of pizza, a Naples pizzeria owner personally sent a special delivery to his holiness-—and the exchange was caught on camera.

Pizzeria co-owner Enzo Cacialli and employee Antonio Greco at Pizzeria Don Ernesto heard that the Pope just wants to be able to get some pizza, and went out on the mission to provide a papal pie. They prepared a white and yellow pizza topped with buffalo mozzarella and yellow cherry tomatoes with "Il Papa" written out.

Then Cacialli took off to hand deliver the pie right to Pope Francis as he was riding in the Popemobile on Sunday.

"It's really hard for me to understand what I managed to do," Cacialli says.

Cecil climbed over the barricades and was miraculously able to run up to the Popemobile and hand-deliver the pie directly into the hands of the Pope.  Pope Francis graciously accepted the pizza as the Popemobile continued to drive along the road, the crowd cheering and grinning.

“Giving a pizza you made with your own hands to the Pope is very emotional. It’s really hard for me to express the value of this gesture for a man we really love and value, for a beautiful person full of humanity,” Cacialli adds.

The special delivery to the Popemobile reminds us that everyday random acts of kindness can make someone's day, and who better to make smile than the Pope? While his holiness is the absolute sovereign on the Vatican, he is also still a man—and just like us, he loves pizza.

Greco uploaded the special delivery to YouTube. Watch it below.
