Google is now rolling out the over-the-air (OTA) update for Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Nexus 7 2013, but only for the LTE version, according to Android Police. It is unclear when the Wi-Fi version will receive the update.

The decision to roll out the OTA update for the LTE version before the Wi-Fi version is unusual, since Google usually takes care of updates for the Wi-Fi version first. The Nexus 7 2013 is also usually one of the last Nexus devices to receive updates, as seen in Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, and Android 5.0.2.

Google has yet to include the Android 5.1 update for the Nexus 7 2013 LTE in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), but the link to the OTA .zip file was uploaded by Android Police. The update is meant for Nexus 7 2013 LTE users who are already running Android 5.0.2.

Google announced Android 5.1 on March 9 as a little over 200MB of fixes for major bugs and memory leaks that Nexus users have been complaining about in earlier versions of Android Lollipop. However, Google's release of updates for the different Nexus devices has been, at best, sporadic. With the Nexus 7 2013 LTE now receiving the update, that leaves only the owners of the Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi and new Nexus 9 tablet wanting for an update.

Meanwhile, Google has already started rolling out the OTA update to Android 5.1 for the Nexus 4. Like the Android 5.1 update for the Nexus 7 2013 LTE, this one is also not yet posted on the AOSP website. However, one Reddit user says he received the Android 5.1 update for his Nexus 4 and posted the OTA update, which clocks in at 174MB.

Five weeks into the announcement of Android 5.1, nearly all Nexus devices have started receiving the update. As to when the remaining couple of Nexus devices will receive Android 5.1 is yet to be known.

However, it looks like Nexus 9 and Nexus 7 2013 Wi-Fi owners don't have to fret about Google leaving them behind in the dust, as keen-eyed Redditors have spotted the Android 5.1 updates for Flounder and Flo, codenames for the Nexus 9 and Nexus 7 2013 respectively, sitting in plain view on Google's website. With all other Nexus devices upgraded to Android 5.1, it's only a matter of time before Google releases the update for these two devices.
