Last week, the trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice leaked, and then was later officially released by Warner Brothers.

However, fans immediately noticed something prevalent in that trailer: not only was the tone of the trailer dark, as well as the narrative, but the visuals were also dark, so much so that many DC fans said that the film looked like it could be depressing to watch.

Now, though, one fan has spruced that trailer up by not only adding a pop of color, but also adding in iconic actors in the roles as Batman and Superman: Adam West and Christopher Reeve, using footage of their time in those costumes.

West is most known for his version of the Caped Crusader on the bright, colorful and campy 1960s Batman TV show, which was about the complete opposite of the most recent take on the character. Reeve is probably the Superman we remember most fondly, a forthright, honest and optimistic hero who always did the right thing.

We admit that this trailer seems a lot more interesting with those two iconic actors taking on the roles. But it still highlights something we're noticing: the original Batman v Superman movie trailer shows those two characters in darker places than we've ever seen.

It's kind of interesting that a superhero, such as Superman, would be depicted more like Batman (i.e., hated by the city he's sworn to protect), but this is the angle the new movie plans on taking.

This has a lot to do with the success of the gritty Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy of films, but many DC fans would argue that not every superhero needs a depiction with the same brush strokes as Batman. But we're seeing it a lot, on TV (Arrow, for example) and in film (this new version of Superman). Superman, in particular, was always a figure of hope for those living in Metropolis, but now it seems he's a figure they fear.

It's an interesting take on the character, but is it the right way to depict him?

What do you think? Has Superman officially gone too dark?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will hit theaters across the world on March 25, 2016.

For lighter fare, though, we've still got the animated Batman movie based on the 1960s series coming out sometime next year with voices provided by the original Batman and Robin, West and Burt Ward.
