The coveted Pulitzer Prize for journalism for 2015 has been awarded to individuals and publications for their notable work.

The winners are spread across 21 categories, which include both national and international reporting, investigative reporting, public service and more.

The big winners for the Pulitzer this year included notable publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, which took home the joint honors for best investigative reporting. In the feature writing category, The Los Angeles Times' Diana Marcum won the Pulitzer.

The Post and Courier, Charleston, SC won the Pulitzer for Public Service. The publication won the Pulitzer for its series "Till Death Do Us Part," which explored why South Carolina had the distinction of being the deadliest state for women. It also brought to light what could be done to counter the same.

The Seattle Times Staff took home the honors for Breaking News Reporting. The publication's digital piece on a landslide that took the lives of 43 people as well as the remarkable follow-up reporting which delved into the possibility of the disaster being avoided.

Local Reporting: Rob Kuznia, Rebecca Kimitch and Frank Suraci of the Daily Breeze, Torrance, CA

National Reporting: Carol D. Leonnig of The Washington Post

International Reporting: The New York Times Staff

Feature Writing: Diana Marcum of the Los Angeles Times 

Commentary: Lisa Falkenberg of the Houston Chronicle

Criticism: Mary McNamara of the Los Angeles Times

Editorial Writing: Kathleen Kingsbury of The Boston Globe

Breaking News Photography: St. Louis Post-Dispatch Photography Staff

Editorial Cartooning: Adam Zyglis of The Buffalo News

Feature Photography: Daniel Berehulak, freelance photographer, The New York Times
