14 years ago, writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale teamed back up at Marvel after the DC success of their Batman story, The Long Halloween.

For Marvel, Loeb and Sale dreamed up four "color" miniseries that would retell the origins of some of Marvel's most popular superheroes. Throughout 2001 to 2004, the duo put out Daredevil: Yellow, Spider-Man: Blue and Hulk: Gray. A fourth series was expected to focus on Captain America and Bucky Barnes, but it never happened.

We don't know why it never came together exactly. We only know that it was four years later, in 2008, that Marvel finally published the traditional #0 issue of the fourth series, which was titled Captain America: White. And then ... nothing. Just silence for seven long years.

This morning, a special breakfast was held for retailers at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, also affectionately known as C2E2. During the presentation, Marvel made an announcement many comics readers thought would never come: all six full issues of Captain America: White are finally going to be published.

Bleeding Cool reports that the series is being held onto so that it can be published before next year's Captain America: Civil War movie. Marvel reportedly gave Captain America: White a debut date of this September.
