A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away - there were actually decent Star Wars games. They weren't just movie tie-ins or quick cash grabs, but games that really tried to push the envelope.

Back in their heyday, Star Wars games were seen as innovative - and while there will always be bad Star Wars games, it feels as if the titles that really try to do something different just don't come around all that often anymore.

The worst part was that, for a long time, it was impossible to play some of the best Star Wars games ever made: older operating systems and incompatible software meant that gamers were just plain out of luck.

Thankfully, that's no longer the case: several different stores have started bringing the classic Star Wars titles back: fans won't have to worry about keeping a working copy of Windows 95 running ever again.

With May the 4th just around the corner, there's never been a better time to jump into some of these classic Star Wars games - and, with a host of new sales popping up, gamers have plenty of different options when it comes to picking out a title.

First up is Good Old Games: GOG.com was actually the first store to bring back the classic X-Wing games, but don't think that's all it's got up its sleeve for Star Wars Day. There's definitely a focus on the older games, but with titles like these, that's far from a bad thing:

Star Wars: Rebel Assault (1+2)

Price: $9.99

Star Wars: X-Wing Collector's Edition

Price: $8.99

Star Wars: Tie Fighter Collector's Edition

Price: $8.99

Star Wars: Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast

Price: $7.99

Star Wars: Jedi Knight - Jedi Academy

Price: $7.99

There's also a pair of different bundles, both tailored to a specific style of play: if you're looking to sling blaster bolts back and forth, the Blaster Bundle is just what you're looking for; if an elegant weapon from a more civilized time is your style, pick up the Saber Bundle. Both contain games from the list above as well as newer titles like Star Wars Battlefront, so definitely check them out.

For those who wish to stick with Steam, good news: X-Wing and TIE Fighter have finally made their debut on Steam's digital platform. There's even a fancy new X-Wing Bundle, which features X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance for less than $30.

Then again, this is Steam we're talking about: you didn't really think that the May the 4th Sale would be limited to one series, did you?
