Samsung is believed to be preparing an update that will bring more improvements to the already impressive cameras on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

SamMobile reports that the improvements will most likely appear with the arrival of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the flagship smartphones. The camera update does not, however, appear in the Android 5.1.1 version that was rolled out for Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge by T-Mobile. The Un-carrier has since halted the release of OTA updates for the latest version of Android Lollipop, indicating that the early release might have been an unfinished test version that still needed more tweaking.

Unfortunately, SamMobile's source does not go into the details of exactly what improvements we are likely to see in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge camera, although the source says the next Android Lollipop update will give the camera software full support for Google's camera API for Lollipop. This means both flagships will be able to do things such as shoot in RAW and control the shutter speed, two features that will give the smartphones an edge with professional photographers.

It's not surprising that Samsung would want to add these advanced features for its flagship smartphones' cameras. After all, rival Android flagships such as the HTC One M9 and the LG G4 have full support for RAW shooting and shutter speed control. Along with these new features, the update is also expected to bring a variety of bug fixes and stability improvements for the camera software and other aspects of the Android system.

SamMobile also reports that whatever camera updates the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge are bound to receive will also become part of a new device that Samsung is currently working one. Codenamed Samsung Zen/Samsung Noble, the device is believed to be the Galaxy Note 5, the latest in Samsung's line of large-screen smartphones that gave the Korean smartphone maker an edge over Apple before it launched the iPhone 6.

The Galaxy Note 5 is not expected to launch until the second half of this week, but customers can expect to see all the bells and whistles of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge camera in the upcoming phablet's own shooter.

Samsung's flagship smartphones, particularly the Galaxy S6 Edge, is deemed by DxOMark as the best smartphone camera in the industry, besting out all other competitors, including the camera on the iPhone 6. The Galaxy S6 still has to undergo testing by DxOMark, but since it has the same camera as the Galaxy S6 Edge, the Galaxy S6 is likely to receive the same outstanding mark from the phone camera tester.
