Sony has a new Android smartphone in its Xperia family — the Xperia C4 — which the company is touting as the newest selfie smartphone.

On Wednesday, May 6, Sony took the wraps off the Xperia C4 smartphone, which it lauds as a PROSelfie smartphone.

The 5.5-inch Xperia C4 is the successor of the company's Xperia C3 smartphone, which was released in 2014. The smartphone is being pitched as the mid-range smartphone for users who enjoy taking selfies.

"Following the success of Xperia C3, we are proud to introduce Sony's evolved PROselfie smartphone," noted Tony McNulty, VP of value category business management at Sony Mobile. "Xperia C4 caters to consumers that want a smartphone that not only takes great photos, but also packs a punch. Benefiting from Sony's camera expertise, the 5 MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens lets you capture perfect selfies, while its quality display and performance features provide an all-round advanced smartphone experience."

Weighing just 147gms, the Xperia C4 boasts a 5.5-inch full HD IPS screen with a pixel resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels (an improvement on the Xperia C3's 720p). The Xperia C4 has a pixel density of 400 ppi.

Under the hood, the Xperia C4 houses a 64-bit octa-core Cortex-A53 processor that is clocked at 1.7 GHz. The latest Android smartphone from Sony packs in 2 GB of RAM and has 16 GB of onboard memory with the option to expand the same up to 128 GB via a microSD card.

The real star of this smartphone, however, is its stellar camera. The Xperia C4 boasts a 5 MP secondary camera with LED flash, which is perfect for all your selfie-taking needs. The front-facing camera has a 25 mm wide-angle lens, as well as Sony's Exmor R mobile sensor. This basically means that even pictures taken in low-light conditions will turn out well. Moreover, the Steady Shot feature will automatically ensure that there are no camera shakes.

The smartphone also has a 13 MP rear-facing camera with HDR and autofocus. Sony also packs in creative camera applications such as Style Portrait and AR Mask so that users can have some fun.

The Xperia C4 also houses a 2,600 mAh battery that supports up to 12 hours and 47 minutes of talk time. The LTE-compatible smartphone will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC.

The Xperia C4 is also set to come in a dual-SIM variant — dubbed Xperia C4 Dual — and will come in three hues: black, white and a vibrant green. The smartphone's pricing is not yet known, but it is expected to make its way to select markets beginning early June.
