The LG G4 doesn't have an exact release date in the U.S., but it shouldn't be too much longer. The Verizon and Sprint variants of LG's new flagship smartphone have passed through the FCC ahead of release.

Android smartphone fans will soon have another option when choosing a high-end handset. The LG G4 will join the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and HTC One M9 on all major U.S. carriers in the coming weeks. Customers will be able to choose the smartphone with either a standard plastic back or premium leather option, which the company claims takes three months to produce.

LG has announced that the G4 will be offered by Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile in the U.S., but none of the carriers have committed to a specific release date. It looks like we should be hearing of a solid release date soon, as the Verizon and Sprint LG G4 variants have passed through the FCC.

The Verizon and Sprint LG G4 are listed by their model numbers in the FCC documentation; VS986 and LS991. While the listings don't actually mention the LG G4, it lines up with last year's LG G3 model number on both carriers, which were VS985 and LS990.

As a reminder, the LG G4 features a 5.5-inch 2560 by 1440 quad-HD display with a pixel density of 538 pixels per inch (ppi) and Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. Its camera capabilities include a 16 megapixel rear shooter with laser autofocus, OIS (optical image stabilization) and 8 megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video chat. Unlike Samsung and HTC, LG has decided to keep the G4's large 3,000 mAh battery removable, and its 32 GB of internal storage can be expanded via its microSD expansion slot, which will support up to 128 GB microSD cards.

We'll keep you posted on all LG G4 news as it becomes available.
