Star Wars dominated the headlines last month, in no small part thanks to the first in-game footage reveal of EA's upcoming Star Wars Battlefront.

But for all the excitement, details on the game are still scarce. We know the game can be played in first or third person and that iconic heroes and villains from the franchise will be playable, just like in previous Battlefront games. This new Battlefront will have single-player missions that draw inspiration from the films and will also feature maps tailored to specific game modes.

Yet we have yet to see any real gameplay of the title in action. That will change next month at E3, says Battlefront design director Niklas Fegraeus in a new blog post.

"I really look forward to showing you all more from the game as we get closer to release, and for you guys who are asking me when you can see gameplay, I can tell you that we have great plans for E3," Fegraeus writes.

His blog post wasn't only a tease for the future, however. While discussing how the maps in Battlefront will be tailored to specific Star Wars experiences, Fegraeus mentions a previously unannounced "fighter squadron" mode, which he says could be briefly seen in the game's announcement trailer, as an X-Wing and Tie Fighter battle in a canyon.

"What we want to make sure is that each Star Wars fan can have something really awesome to look forward to, be that epic online battles or an instant skirmish alone or with a friend," Fegraeus writes.

One feature Battlefront will be lacking is the inclusion of space battles like those seen in the films and in Star Wars Battlefront 2. While this new Battlefront won't have players duking it out in orbit, it sounds like fans who want to live their dream of being an ace X-Wing pilot will get their chance in this fighter squadron mode.

Expect plenty of new Star Wars Battlefront details on June 15 at EA's E3 press conference. Star Wars Battlefront releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC Nov. 17.
