Taylor Swift dominated the recently concluded Billboard Music Awards, winning 8 major titles that include 'Top Artist' and 'Top Billboard 200 Artist.' The annual awards show, which was hosted this year by model Chrissy Teigen and rapper Ludacris, also featured live performances from Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Meghan Trainor, Van Halen and more.

The show kicked off with the debut of Swift's new music video Bad Blood which starred Lena Dunham and Selena Gomez. The night's first award went to the British group "One Direction" for Top Duo/Group. Liam Payne, one of the group's members, shared the award with former co-member Zayn Malik.

"There is one more person to share this with, and that's our brother Zayn," said Payne.

The group also won "Top Touring Artist."

For the night's first live performance, the audience was treated with the 1984 hit "Panama" by Van Halen. Mariah Carey gave two performances wherein she somehow brought a whole new meaning to the old adage "something old and something new" when she sang Vision of Love, her first hit, and Infinity, her latest single. Britney Spears performed her new single Pretty Girls while Meghan Trainor had a duet number with John Legend.

Other live performances came from Little Big Town with Faith Hill and Pitbull with Chris Brown.

Swift was also the night's lead nominee, earning at least 14 nominations.

"Oh, this is such a good night!," said Swift after winning the show's top prize. "Early this morning I watched my brother Austin graduate from Notre Dame...(and) to anyone who's graduating this year...this is for you."

Kanye West also gave out a smoky performance for the song All Day which closed the event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. There's no explanation why the audience reacted with a "boo." Maybe the reaction was meant for the song, for the performance or for the artist himself.
