The next Apple TV set-top box will feature Apple Watch support, according to a report by Apple news website 9to5Mac.

It is not clear on what kind of support the Apple TV will have for the Apple Watch, though it was said that the smartwatch will be considered a primary input device for the Apple TV, allowing users to control the set-top box through the wearable device.

The Apple Watch as an input device will be in addition to the earlier reported new Apple TV remote, which will include an input method that uses a trackpad instead of the three buttons that are currently found on the gadget.

The report also revealed that Apple is working on TVKit, which will be a new software development kit, or SDK, that will give third-party developers the ability to create their own apps for Apple TV. Alongside the TVKit, there are expectations that Apple will be releasing an Apple TV App Store to make it easier for users to search and download apps into the set-top box.

It is expected that Apple will be unveiling the new Apple TV at the company's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which will be held from June 8 to 12 in San Francisco.

Sources claim that the new Apple TV will be a "significant upgrade" to the already outdated version of the set-top box, which was originally launched three years ago in 2012. While no official details have been released regarding the device, the next Apple TV is expected to be able to support Apple's personal assistant software Siri and have much more memory compared to the 8GB that is found on the current version.

Other updates to the Apple Watch that the company is looking to make include the addition of the Find My Watch feature, which will work similarly to the Find My iPhone and Find My Mac security systems that are used by the iOS and OS X-based devices of Apple.

The design and implementation of the feature, which allows users to monitor the location of their Apple devices, is seemingly more complicated for the Apple Watch. Upon release, the smartwatch could also then include a Smart Leash feature that alerts users if the iPhone that is paired with their Apple Watch is left somewhere.
