Intel-owned Basis has unveiled the Titanium Edition of its Peak fitness and sleep tracker, which will be on a limited release and is the latest entrant into the wearable technology industry that could challenge the popularity and luxurious offering of the Apple Watch.

The Basis Peak Titanium Edition, which will contain all the features of the Basis Peak but in a durable titanium case, will also come with a line of exclusive leather straps.

The case is made of Grade II titanium with a satin finish, which will be able to resist corrosion and scratches. The Basis Peak Titanium Edition will come with a black SportVent silicon strap and a leather strap in a caramel brown color.

The leather straps come in five different colors, which will be in addition to the already available five colors of the SportVent straps earlier released. The leather straps feature fast release pins to make them easy to switch out with the SportVent strap or the device's regular strap.

"We are thrilled to expand the Peak lineup with the sleek Titanium Edition, the highest quality Basis to date, along with a new line of leather accessory straps, giving customers more ways to make a comprehensive fitness tracking experience fit into their lives and reflect their personal style," said Basis general manager Jef Holove.

Basis also announced that it is currently rolling out a new app update, which will add features such as data syncing with Google Fit and Apple Health, allowing Peak users to share data acquired by the tracker to Google Fit and Apple Health-based apps. The update will also give users access to the Basis Peak Playground, which allows Peak users to try out and give feedback regarding features in experimental stages.

There will also be a firmware update that will add stopwatch functionalities and make improvements to the heart rate tracking features of the Peak device.

The Basis Peak fitness and sleep tracker was launched late last year, featuring a multi-sensor design that provides users with comprehensive data on their fitness activities and sleeping habits. The device is also capable of providing the user with smartwatch-style notifications for incoming messages, calls and events on the paired smartphone's calendar. The Basis Peak also promises a battery life that can last up to a total of four days, with water resistance that can resist up to 5 ATM.

The Basis Peak Titanium Edition is available in the United States for $299.99, with the leather straps all having a price of $49.99. The standard Basis Peak, on the other hand, sells for $199.99, with the SportVent straps selling for $29.99 each.
