Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld, Jim Carrey and Tina Fey were some just some of the A-list celebrities who appeared on the final Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday night.

But Letterman was most excited by the appearance of Peyton Manning. The Denver Broncos quarterback joined the star-studded list of celebs who presented the "Top Ten Things I've Always Wanted to Say to Dave" list.

Presenting No. 3, Manning hilariously said, "You are to comedy... what I am to comedy."

Letterman responded, "That doesn't make any sense," before adding in awe, "Peyton! Oh, oh, oh my God!"

Watch the funny moment here.

Manning almost instantly became Letterman's favorite athlete, back when the late-night talk show host's hometown team of the Indianapolis Colts had a chance to select him with the top overall pick of the 1998 NFL Draft. That possibility was discussed during Manning's debut Late Show appearance back in 1997.

Dave's Colts wound up doing just that, drafting Manning with the No. 1 pick. That set off a string of memorable Manning appearances on the Late Show through the years.

What a thrill it was for Dave to have Peyton join him after the Indianapolis Colts won the Super Bowl in 2007.

Manning also spoke with Letterman about a serious neck fusion surgery that he had years later.

They even threw footballs into moving taxis in Manhattan.

Hey, with Manning nearing the end of his NFL career and Letterman now retired, maybe he and Dave can hang out more often. We're sure Letterman would be geeked about that.
