Investigators are searching for clues on what started a fire at the Samsung SDS data center in South Korea this weekend, and early indications revealed it may have been due to a smoke pipe issue outside of the building.

Some financial customer services were knocked offline Sunday by the blaze that reportedly damaged electronic payment systems and online credit card and insurance services.

A report claims Samsung is denying it also suffered a data leak due to the blaze.

"We quickly blocked the servers in the Gwacheon center after the fire to prevent any possible data leak," a Samsung official said. "There will be no data loss because we have a backup data center in Suwon."

The news comes as Samsung is enjoying media coverage of its smartphone business and newly launched Galaxy S5 handset that is getting solid reviews for new features.

According to press reports the company's Samsung Card system was most impacted and still not working as of Monday, Korea time. It's also impacted access to ATMs for customers as well as Internet-based phone services.

"We've told the affected firms to resume services as quickly as possible and compensate customers for all damage caused by the disruptions," the official said. "We are also taking precautions against possible data leaks from the Samsung affiliates. We asked them to take appropriate measures regarding the damaged servers."
